Overview
The College of Media Arts & Technology (CMAT) is a science and technology based faculty with the aim of being a front-runner in creating a prosperous future for the information society. In our current era, computers and mobile devices connected to a global network enable anyone, anywhere, and at any time to disseminate information and interact with others. The explosive growth of this network has resulted in transformations in industries, businesses, education, culture, and everyday life, to a scale comparable to and even surpassing the Communication Revolution sparked by Gutenberg’s movable type printing technology. The College of Media Arts & Technology intends to foster engineers and researchers who will play a leading role in this era of change.
The College serves as a focal point for education, research, and artistic production in digital media, with special emphases in visual and spatial arts, electronic music and sound design, and multimedia engineering. The curriculum provides for an interdisciplinary experience, building on a core set of skills and knowledge, with an emphasis on research and collaboration in digital media systems, content, and interaction. In addition to the interdisciplinary breadth of the college, CMAT students may focus on specific areas of emphasis, according to their backgrounds and career interests.
The College of Media Arts & Technology was established for the purpose of providing education starting from fundamentals in information and communication technology, leading to advanced topics in content technology for producing and utilizing content that flows through networks, and net-media technology for supporting the accumulation and flow of content. Our aim is not to raise creators who will work on generating the content itself; but to foster engineers and researchers who will make an impact on society through their technological and scientific achievements.
The College of the Arts and Media is committed to leadership in pedagogy, creative scholarship, professional performance, artistic exhibition, and journalistic inquiry. The College prides itself on its high achieving faculty, and talented students who work hard to ensure that IARSAC International University serves as the heart of culture and media for the state and region.
CMAT designs programs for its students with knowledge and skills relevant to careers in digital media-related research and in artistic and technical positions in the media industries of the 21st century. The College fosters aesthetically trained media technology inventors of the future. It trains electronic media artists who can work with a high degree of aesthetic and technical sophistication to enrich and enlarge our cultural heritage. It prepares thinkers for advanced studies in media technology, leading toward academic careers in this discipline.
The College programs is intended for students who are interested in both arts and technology and have a strong background in at least one area of arts, or science and at least some experience in a cross-discipline (e.g., an arts area for those with engineering backgrounds and vice versa). Prospective students should be ambitious and curious about interdisciplinary research and intermedia art and should be interested in working with others on collaborative projects spanning multiple areas of expertise.
CMAT coordinates with four graduate departments: Journalism, Digital Media Arts, Public Relations and Advertising, Arts Media Communication and Mass Communication. Faculty advisors assist students in planning their courses of study depending upon their backgrounds and areas of interest.
